Rekindle more community-based activities to bring people of all races and religions together, said 1Malaysia Foundation Trustee Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

From enjoying Ipoh’s famous nasi vanggey to supporting our Olympic team recently, the veteran social activist said cherishing moments of unity can foster national unity and solidarity as envisaged by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his National Day message,

“Malaysia should focus on creating more moments of unity among Malaysians so that the people, especially the younger generation, would appreciate and embrace our uniqueness and diversity in terms of ethnicity, culture and religion,” Lee said in a statement.

Lee said activities such as crime prevention programmes, anti-drug campaigns and gotong royong are among effective tools to instil unity and togetherness especially among youngsters, adding that parks and recreation centres are also a great place to hold community-building activities.
