RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP KEY TO STRENGTHENING RACIAL HARMONY
All Malaysians must exercise responsible citizenship in order to strengthen racial harmony and religious tolerance at every level to prevent inter-racial conflicts, said 1Malaysia Foundation Trustee Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
He said citizens of different ethnic origins must always be conscious of the need to have mutual respect for one another.
“It is immature and irresponsible for those who post sensitive topics on their Facebook (accounts). Such racist remarks can threaten the unity among the multiracial community in Malaysia.
“We have been a harmonious society and it is necessary for us to further enhance and strengthen our inter-racial understanding and trust for one another despite whatever differences,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Lee was commenting on several postings of a racial nature being circulated on the social networks lately.
He said Malaysia today stands out in the world as an example of how different ethnic communities can live in peace and harmony and work together for the progress and well-being of the nation.
